Tooth Fillings in Milton Keynes

Fillings are materials such as metal, plastic, glass, or other substances that are placed in a tooth to repair or restore it. One of the most common applications of fillings is to “fill” a cavity in a person’s tooth. Fillings may also be used to mend fractured or broken teeth and teeth worn down.

When your tooth is numb, your dentist will remove the decay. After repairing it, they’ll replace it with either a composite or amalgam filling.

A cavity that goes untreated is excruciating. Fillings are a method to keep your tooth from further decaying and causing additional pain to your teeth, which can result in fractures and cracks.

Filling Treatment Process

Step One

After your consultation the dentist will numb the area to be worked on using local anaesthetic.

Step Two

Decay will then be removed from the cavity and smoothed over in preparation for the filling.

Step Three

The dentist will then place the filling with the chosen material. A quick clean and polish and you're done.

Why Would I Need A Filling?

Fillings are the most common treatment for cavities. The decaying substance is removed from the tooth, and the hole is then filled and sealed with a filling to prevent any future bacteria from entering. Fillings can be constructed of a variety of materials, including silver amalgam, which is conventional, as well as coloured fillings that are almost impossible to detect.

Our Clinic is a Mercury Free Environment

Today, we are better informed than ever about how substances introduced into our bodies may influence overall physical health. It should follow that in dentistry, too. It can be viewed in a holistic light and that is why we provide choices that consider your complete well-being.

Mercury is a natural element, but because it is considered a hazardous substance with known detrimental health effects from exposure to high amounts, it is classified as such. Mercury has the ability to accumulate in the body tissue from other sources, including diet and pollution, although low doses are apparently without negative health consequences.

Amalgam is a composite material that can be bonded to tooth enamel. When the amalgam is placed in the tooth, it hardens rapidly and becomes solid enough to resist biting and chewing. Because most of the mercury in set amalgam is stable, continuous exposure to mercury is limited.

We know that mercury may have serious consequences for susceptible individuals, and we don’t want our staff members or patients to be exposed to potential toxicity as a result of amalgam fillings.

This statement is only the opinion of the clinic and may not necessarily reflect on opinions of other dental practitioners.
